Date: Wednesday, February 10th
Time: 11 am
Program Details:
Join the Senior Academy as we celebrate Black History and Black Excellence! This program will examine the role of women and girls in the Civil Rights Movement. Challenging popular culture representations of female civil rights activists, it offers a transformative narrative of the Movement that centers women’s activism and demonstrates the importance of their work for the survival and progress of Black communities and of the Black freedom movement. Consistent with recent civil rights scholarship that focuses on the centrality of Black women’s activism and leadership, this presentation highlights some of the remarkable women and girls, who, as advocates for justice and equality, were integral to the Movement.
